Excel.SensitivityLabelUpdateResult renamed to Excel.SensitivityLabelUpdateStatus in Office.js beta (preview API)

Preview · ExcelApi BETAMicrosoft's documentation

Excel.SensitivityLabelUpdateResult, a preview API (ExcelApi BETA), renamed to Excel.SensitivityLabelUpdateStatus on the Office.js beta CDN in 16.0.20606.15070, first seen 14 Oct 2026, 20:07 UTC. Affects Excel on Mac, web, Windows, Android and iOS. Not changed in production so far.

Production
No change seen on the production CDN.
Beta
removed in 16.0.20606.15070, first seen 14 Oct 2026, 20:07 UTC; rollout complete 16 Oct 2026, 04:50 UTC.

What this means for your add-in

On clients that load the new build, Excel.SensitivityLabelUpdateResult is undefined: calling or constructing it throws a TypeError (the messages are below).

Use Excel.SensitivityLabelUpdateStatus, with a fallback to the old name for clients still on the previous build.

This is a preview API (ExcelApi BETA): Microsoft says not to use it in production, and it can change or disappear in any build. If you use it anyway, check that it exists before every use — if (Excel.SensitivityLabelUpdateResult) { … }. A requirement-set check does not help: preview APIs belong to no released set.

So far this is only on the beta CDN (/lib/beta/hosted/). Add-ins that load production Office.js (/lib/1/hosted/) are not affected yet; production builds often follow beta.

Errors you may see

In the add-in's console or error logs, on clients that loaded the new build. Parts in <…> come from your own code.

  • TypeError: Cannot read properties of undefined (reading '<value>')Windows, web, Android (Chromium)
  • TypeError: undefined is not an object (evaluating 'Excel.SensitivityLabelUpdateResult.<value>')Mac, iOS (Safari)
